"So, what IS Eastern Promise?"

Mike Rigby
It’s a question I’m often asked so what better way to start the Eastern Promise blog than with a comprehensive answer?
Big Sky, Big Potential.
That’s my slogan, my strapline, call it what you will.
That truth drives Eastern Promise forward. And every week that I’m out and about, interviewing people, meeting future guests and visiting all points of the region, it just feels like Christmas morning: so many amazing things, so many wonderful people and I can’t believe they’re all ours.
Being a well brought up lad and knowing the importance of sharing, I wanted to spread the word and so I decided to do a podcast. And lo, Eastern Promise was born.
I started with the warm, fuzzy yet simple objective to share the very best of the East of England. What constituted either the ‘best’ or the ‘East’ of England was very much left to my discretion (and to be fair, it still is).
To my amazement people have continued to download the podcast and it would increase tenfold the length of this post were I to attempt to name everyone who has supported, and continues to support, Eastern Promise: you know who you are.
It amazes me that so much of our region is doing business on the global stage.
To take Eastern Promise beyond a simple hobby, it needed to be underpinned with a more comprehensive suite of ideas. After consideration of the key outputs and what I wanted to deliver, this coalesced into what I’ve termed my ‘5P’ Strategy.
And no, it’s not my operating budget…
These five areas are the focus of everything Eastern Promise will do, both in the podcast and in our wider campaign activity. And they are:
Everything Eastern Promise does will be expected to speak to at least four of these five criteria, with POSITIVITY and POTENTIAL being essential, non-negotiable criteria.
The East of England is a truly amazing place: we have more potential here than practically any other region of the UK.
Our researchers and scientists are tackling the key questions of our age, around medicine, food, agriculture and more.
Our coastline, facing out into the Southern North Sea, is the source of incredible, clean energy resources, which will eclipse the fossil-fuel focused Aberdeen very soon. I’m hugely excited to be sharing these stories around the world.
This is the best time to be in the East of England and to share the stories of our huge potential both across the world and within our region.
Why would you want to be anywhere else?
